The Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has called for a mindset change among people living at the lakeshores of Lake Edward and George that would see them invest in the education of their children.

Bishop Kibira described people living near the lake shore as intelligent human creature since they depend on food which has pure iron to boost their brain and immunity but wondered why parents give a deaf ear to the education of the children whom he said should they be empowered academically they can be of the great use to the nation.

In his speech shortly after Mass on the first Sunday of Advent, 3rd Dec 2023, where he administered Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Matrimony at Katunguru Roman Catholic Church at St. Peter and Paul Katwe Parish, Bishop Kibira asked parents to engage holiday makers in production that would help them raise school fees for next year.

He asked children at the lakeshore who have been given a chance of education to distance themselves from drug abuse and fishing during school days, but rather to focus on their education for a brighter future.

Bishop Kibira also reminded Christians to strive for God’s mercy and live in harmony as well as extending His mercy to the less privileged especially now during Advent season.

He said Advent season is an opportune time for Christians to stand up against works of Satan that include, drug abuse, alcoholism, hatred, theft and fornication among others but rather live as trusted witnesses of the Good news.

On his part, Katwe Parish Priest Fr. Alfred Masereka commended the Bishop for giving the Sacrament of Baptism to 15 children, for confirming 184 Christians into the Catholic faith and for the officiation of matrimony to one couple among others.

The Parish head of Laity Mr. Fanwell Babara asked the Diocesan administration to support their dream of establishing two tourism centers to raise income for the parish.

He appeals for fundraising for the renovation and facelifting of almost all churches in the parish which he characterized as poor structures.

Earlier, Bishop Kibira encouraged the youth to turn up in big numbers to attend the Diocesan Youth Conference at Nsenyi Catechetical Training Centre slated from 10th-14th January, where Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisa is expected to preside over the closing session.
