The Vicar General of Lira Diocese Monsignor Valente Innocent Opio has called upon Catechists in Lira Diocese to respect the Sacraments in the church.

He called on the catechists and other pastoral agents during the Eucharistic celebration to honour the different pastoral agents who work diligently in the church.

He said that some catechists have even lost respect for their marriages, going out with other women which is not only affecting their families but also the reputation of the Church.

Catechists, according to Vicar General, should be exemplary by showing respect to their marriages and putting into action what they preach.

In his message, the Vicar emphasized the need for catechists to respect the Sacraments and other sacred items that are used in the church.

“Don’t abuse them but use the sacred items for the purpose they are intended for”, the Vicar said in a statement.

Monsignor Valente went on to ask the catechists to be close to Catholic founded schools to ensure that catechesis is properly dispensed for the good of the learners and the Christian community.

According to the Vicar there is need for catechists to remain in unity because it is the strength of the church.

“Communication and unity go hand in hand without which the Church is bound to fall.  You should always seek guidance where you are faced with challenges”, the Vicar said in his passionate address.

He added by urging the catechists to encourage their Christians to assume positions in leadership to enable them concentrate fully in developing their communities.

During the same occasion, there was also renewal of promises by the catechists, a solemn event that was presided over by the Vicar General, flanked by other concelebrating priests.
