MALAWI: Association of Women Religious in Malawi Strives for Institutional Excellence

The Association of Women in Religious Institutes in Malawi (AWRIM) has hosted a workshop for the Mother Superiors of various congregations from December 1st to 3rd 2023 in the capital Lilongwe, to enhance their institutional capacities through policy development.
Facilitated by AdviseWise consultancy, the workshop aimed at addressing the absence of proper policies within different institutions and congregations and to empower the Sisters so that they are able to develop and review policies independently for more efficient operations within their respective capacities.
In an interview on the side-lines of the workshop, AWRIM chairperson Sr. Agnes Jonas said these policies would significantly contribute to the congregations’ missions within the Church for them to do better in their apostolates.
Sr. Mary Chimalizeni, the Provincial Superior of the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi acknowledged the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) for providing an opportunity to acquire knowledge in policies, a resource that many congregations lack.
Emphasizing their charism of reaching out to wounded humanity in education, health, pastoral, and social work, Sr. Chimalizeni hinted that “the use of policies is vital because they help to unify the procedures that we follow in our work and helps us serve the people better.”
The success of this workshop is anticipated to have a transformative impact on the congregations, enabling them to excel in their ministries and serve the people entrusted to them with greater efficacy.
Over twenty congregations and six Sister-led institutions took part in the workshop.
Funding for the workshop was provided by ASEC and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
