The Vicar General of Lira Diocese Monsignor Valente Innocent Opio has implored Christian leaders to guard their children from homosexuality and other forms of evil in the society which are set backs to their moral growth.

Addressing thousands of Catholics who gathered on the occasion of the official reception of the priest at St Francis of Assisi Sub parish Ayago in Apac district on 2nd September 2023, Monsignor Opio before he could administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to 438 Christians, called on parents to protect their children from promoters of homosexuality in their localities.

He expressed concern that homosexuality is penetrating most of the learning institutions within the country, thus becoming a gateway to moral decadence, mentioning that it is time parents remained vigilant to condemn and counteract the act of homosexuality.

He further asked parents to allow their siblings attend catechism classes so as to nurture their faith promptly when they are still young.

In his address he continued by urging Christian leaders to put the God’s given gifts to facilitate the common welfare of the people of God in their localities.

“Each gift given to you by God should not be taken for granted, but it should be observed a precious one given to you for specific mission”, he said in a statement during his homily while further stressing that, “Let those who are around you experience and feel the goodness of the gifts given to you by God”.

The Vicar who represented the bishop of Lira diocese Rt Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok on the occasion said it is appropriate for all leaders of Ayago sub parish to put aside the differences and unite for the common vision in bringing integral growth in the sub parish.

He went on to stress the need for leaders to unite and work in collaboration with a priest and a deacon sent to them as Shepherds in a move for their ministry to bear fruits adding that the primacy in the work of a priest and a deacon sent among them shall be to nurture the faith in which they too should join hands and play their roles responsibly as lay leaders.

In his address, the Vicar expressed gratitude and commended Christians of Ayago sub parish and Alenga parish as a whole for setting priests’ residence saying it demonstrates growth of faith among them.
