In a significant development, the Independent Broadcasting Authority has granted a radio broadcasting license to the Catholic Diocese of Mpika. This remarkable addition marks a total of 10 Catholic radio stations in Zambia now.
On the 5th of August, 2023, Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu, the local ordinary for Mpika, disclosed this development during the ordination ceremony of six priests.
He also revealed that the anticipated radio station is poised to commence its broadcasts in the coming weeks.
Named ‘Yusufu Radio,’ which translates to ‘Joseph’ in the local dialect, the station holds a profound significance. Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu emphasized that Radio Yusufu stands as both a voice of evangelization and a hub for community engagement.
Bishop Mulandu explained on the station’s all-embracing purpose, stating that its establishment within the diocese aims to instill healing, joy, and unity among the diverse people of Mpika, regardless of their religious affiliations.
He expressed gratitude to Missio Austria for their contribution of the radio equipment further sending his plea for support from the local church community, and urging everyone to rally behind this transformative initiative.
“The journey has just begun. I implore your support– material, financial, and moral – to ensure the success of this radio station. Let us nurture and grow Yusufu Radio. Its success will be intertwined with our collective accomplishments. I firmly believe that Yusufu Radio will play a pivotal role in realizing our vision for Mpika Diocese.
