Fr. Isaac Ojok

The chairperson for Communications Commission at Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli has called for renewed collaboration and cooperation among Catholic media practitioners in Uganda.

While giving his opening remarks at the start of the Communications Week in Entebbe Uganda on Wednesday morning, Bishop Franzelli urged the communicators to have change of mind and heart to ensure that the information they give may nourish the hearts of the people saying all can only be realized through commitment and collaboration.

During the past years, the bishop revealed that he has observed how difficult it is for the communicators to work together as a team which is a setback to growth and progress.

He went on to urge the participants to remain vigilant since the society is filled up with many diverging issues, the most critical moment for the communicators to analyze and extract clear and truthful information suitable for public consumption.

He further reiterated the call for serious commitment from the communicators to be able to do their work orderly in a move to bring understanding among the audience.

With the increase in the number of media houses in the country, Bishop Franzelli pointed out the need for more initiatives to be created, capacity building among the communicators so as to become effective.

He further noted the need for journalists to ensure quality of their contents in order to create a difference in the lives of the people.

The diocesan Catholic Communications coordinators, directors of Catholic radio and television stations including the Catholic journalists in Uganda are gathered in Entebbe to evaluate and reflect upon the successes, challenges, and the possible future plans set to enable them work and grow together with common vision.

Furthermore, the communicators are also discussing topic of financial sustainability of the Catholic media in the digital age and other relevant media related matters with guidance from the media expert.

The gathering will be concluded on Sunday 14th of May 2023 with the anticipated celebration of the 57th World Communications Sunday that will be held at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala.

The theme for this year’s 57th world Communications is being organized under the theme; “Speaking with the heart: The truth in love” as found in the letter of St Paul to (Ephesians 4:15).
