MALAWI: ECM’s Catholic Secretariat Welcomes New Secretary General

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has welcomes Fr. Dr. Alfred Chaima, as the new Secretary General at its Secretariat in Lilongwe.

Rev. Fr. Chaima was appointed to the position during the Bishops’ June 2022 Plenary assembly to replace Rev Fr. Dr. Henry Saindi who served in the same capacity for seven years and was assigned other responsibilities.

“The Bishops have appointed Fr. Chaima, of the Archdiocese of Blantyre as the new Secretary General, effective 1st August 2022,” led part of the appointment statement.

Introducing and welcoming Fr. Chaima, the out-going Secretary General, Fr. Saindi asked for cooperation from all ECM stakeholders in order for the new Secretary General’s work to be a success

“It is my humble request to you all to welcome him with great pleasure and enthusiasm. I hope you all will support and cooperate with him,” leads the introductory statement.

Until his appointment, Fr. Chaima was serving as a Pastoral Secretary for the Archdiocese of Blantyre and as a Theology and Religious Studies Lecturer at the Catholic University of Malawi and the University of Malawi.
