Government has described the death of the mother to Emeritus Archbishop, Telesphore Mpundu, as a huge loss to the nation.

Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba said this during the requiem mass at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus where he represented President Hakainde Hichilema.

Ms. Mwamba said the death of Ms Margaret Mpundu Changopa has been received with a lot of grief and pain.

“Government is always saddened when the nation loses a citizen, more so, a senior citizen from whose wisdom and counsel the country benefitted,” said Ms. Mwamba.

And in his homily, Archbishop of Lusaka Alick Banda called on the nation to pray for national, personal and global healing.

His grace remembered the late, Ms Changopa as being a pillar both to the Catholic church and the nation at large.

“Lets us also pray for the inflicted and the poor. Death should be a reminder of how people should care for each other in their daily lives. God gave, and he has taken, but hope still remains that the dead will resurrect to enjoy everlasting life,” he said.
