ZAMBIA: Bishop-elect for Monze to be Installed on May 7

The Episcopal Ordination and installation of Bishop-elect for Monze Diocese in Zambia, Very Rev. Fr. Raphael Mweempwa, has been set for Saturday 7th May 2022.

This will take place at the site of the new Cathedral of Monze, Holy Trinity Cathedral.

The Apostolic Administrator of Monze Diocese Very Rev. Fr. Francesco has announced and encouraged all to continue praying for the Bishop-elect and the Diocese of Monze.

 Pope Francis on 25th February, 2022 appointed Rev. Fr. Raphael Mweempwa as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Monze.

The Bishop-elect, a Diocesan Priest of the Diocese of Monze, was until this appointment serving at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka as formator and lecturer.

His appointment comes after the demise of Right Reverend Bishop Hamungole in January, 2021.

 And Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) President, Most Rev. Ignatius Chama, has conveyed his hearty congratulations to the Bishop-elect and wished him God’s continued blessing as well as every success as he takes up the new appointment.

 Very Rev. Fr. Mweempwa was born on 30th March 1974, did his primary education at St. Mary’s Primary School and completed his Secondary education in 1993 at Canisius Secondary School in Monze.

 He studied philosophy at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Mpima, Kabwe and proceeded to St. Dominic’s Major seminary for his pastoral and Theological studies before graduating in 2002.

He was ordained priest on 29th June 2002 and holds a Master’s Degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy.
