The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rulenge – Ngara Rt. Rev. Severine Niwemugizi has celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Episcopal Ordination in February 22, the occasion that was attended by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan.

During the same occasion, President Samia has expressed sadness on killings occurring at family level in different parts of the country, arguing that spiritual leaders to uphold moral teachings in the society saying that incidents are happening because of moral decay.

“If you have faith in your heart you can’t take the life of another just because they cheated on you, or because of inheritance, wealth or anything else. No religion teaches or allows that” She said.

On his side Bishop Niwemugizi suggested that the two sides – government and spiritual leaders –  can work together to find a solution to the killings.

“Among the causes of the trend is the ignoring of religious and morals matters. It was for this reason that on March 30, 2021 I organized a meeting of religious leaders in Ngara District to discuss how we can change the situation,” He said.

He also thanked the bishops, priests, nuns and lay faithful for giving him the cooperation that enabled him to serve the Church of God as bishop for 25 years in the diocese of Rulenge – Ngara.

“I thank all those who helped me in fulfilling my role: Clergy, lay faithful, government officials, religious leaders, each in his own way you have helped me either by prayer or by carrying some of my responsibilities or alleviating the suffering that has hindered me” he stressed.
