UGANDA: Refrain from Wrangles and Concentrate on development of your Households, says Bishop Sanctus Lino

Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok

Deacon Isaac Ojok

The Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok has decried tension and wrangles between Religious denominations over Foundation Body ownership of schools in the region.

He made the revelation following numerous cases of tension and wrangles among the local communities in the region to own schools as a Foundation Body based on their Religious affiliations.

According to Bishop Lino, the practice is a bad precedent with debilitating consequences that should be addressed with the spirit of truthfulness, transparency and understanding so as to ensure mutual and peaceful coexistence in the communities.

The Bishop who is also the Chairperson Education Commission at Uganda Episcopal Conference observed and emphasized the need for parties to dialogue and use amicable means for a sustainable solution to be reached.

In the recent pastoral visits in parishes, the Bishop engaged the leadership of the various churches in the region to understand and embrace dialogue on matters of common interest.

The Bishop also implored the local leaders in Lango sub-region to guide the locals to focus and concentrate on development of their households in a move to transform their livelihoods.

Instead of spending much time on wrangles over School Foundation Body ownership, the Bishop challenged the leaders to mobilize the local people to focus on poverty eradication by forming local savings, Cooperatives as well as finding and creating markets where farmers can sell their products at a better price.

The wrangles among religious denomination over the Foundation Body ownership of some schools in the country is observed to be hampering the learning processes commonly in Primary Schools.
