TANZANIA: Bishops Elect and Appoint New Episcopal Conference Leadership

Tanzania Episcopal Conference has held an election of leaders who will oversee the implementation of the activities of the Council for the next three years from now until June 2024.

A statement issued by the Office of the Secretary General of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) on July 1 states that at their 77th General Assembly held at the headquarters of the Conference Kurasini in Dar es Salaam from June 21-25 this year, among other major pastoral responsibilities, the Council of Catholic Bishops of Tanzania held elections to elect and appoint leaders to oversee the implementation of the Secretariat activities.

The bishops have thus re-elected Most Rev.  Gervas Nyaisonga the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mbeya, as President of Tanzania Episcopal Conference  for a second term of three years.

They have also re-elected Rt. Rev. Flavian Kassala the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Geita, as Vice President of the TEC  for a second term of three years.

The bishops have also re-appointed Father Dr Charles Kitima as the Secretary General of TEC for a second term of three years while Father Chesco Msaga C.PP.S has been appointed as the new Deputy  Secretary General of the Conference for a term of three years.

Father Chesco is also the Director of Communications Directorate of the Conference.

It should be noted that, TEC conducts elections and appointments of leaders of the conference who oversee the implementation after every three years.
