KENYA: Webinar on Decade of Ecosystem Restoration for the Youths to Focus on Eco-entrepreneurship

A Webinar targeting young people across Africa aimed to commemorate World Environment Day (WED) which will also mark the launch of the United Nations (UN) decade of ecosystem restoration as an urgent call to restoring the ecosystems, will focus on enlightening participants on eco-entrepreneurship as a sustainable option in climate change.
The Saturday, June 5, online session convened by the International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) will bring together young people from 34 African countries.
Speaking to AMECEA Online in an interview on Thursday, June 3, about the forthcoming Webinar, the IYCS-Africa Regional Coordinator Mr. Benson Makusha disclosed that the session is to empower the youth movement on the call in Laudato Si’ that everyone takes part in restoration of the environment.”
“Our Webinar to the youth will focus on raising awareness on the 2021-2030 decade of ecosystem restoration as was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and how the youth can use the digital space, empower fellow youths to become leaders of eco-system restoration and popularize the concept of eco-entrepreneurship as a sustainable option in climate change,” the Zimbabwean youth leader narrated.
On the initiative to empower young people on eco-entrepreneurship Mr. Makusha said, “Young people need to be involved in sustainable projects other than looking for quick solutions which are not sustainable.”
Besides being a way of raising money, Mr. Makusha who has been at the helm of IYCS-Africa for slightly over a year underscored adding that “eco-entrepreneurship also contribute to saving the environment.”
The forthcoming Webinar will involve experts from various organizations and countries within the continent who will shade light to young people on ecopreneurship and give suggestions on the type of activities related to such business expected to be panacea to economic transformation.
Additionally, the Webinar is expected to enlighten the youth on their role in the decade of eco-system restoration and how they can be committed to the course of ecological conversion.
IYCS is a faith-based youth apostolate organization being run under the theme “Connecting African Youth for Sustainable Development” and empowers students to build a consensus on the fundamental issues related to educational policy reforms; migration policy reforms in Africa; digital advocacy; environment and climate Change; human rights; peace and conflict transformation.
