ZAMBIA: Be Ethical, Bishop Phiri Urges Radio Ecengelo Staff

The bishop of Ndola Diocese Rt. Rev. Benjamin Phiri has encouraged his diocesan radio station staff, Radio Icengelo, to take leadership in being ethical on all media platforms in all their undertaking.

Speaking when he graced the 25th anniversary of the radio station on 18th May,2021 in Kitwe, Bishop Phiri further urged the radio station to be honest and embrace the station’s core values of prayer, integrity, innovation, team work, leadership, commitment, efficiency and quality.

Meanwhile, he has called on all Radio Icengelo staff to cover this year’s general elections without fear and not to succumb to influence from interest groups.

According the Radio Icengelo News, Bishop Phiri said members of staff should not be swayed by inducements that could affect their professionalism and quality of their news and programming saying they should strive to be professional and to exhibit maturity in the manner they serve the people.

Rt. Rev. Phiri added that members of staff should be relevant to the community and the global community.

Speaking earlier during his homily when he celebrated radio Icengelo’s 25 years thanks giving mass, Bishop Phiri said the core business of the station was to proclaim the Gospel of God to listeners.

He also emphasized on the need for the faithful to continue supporting the radio station and reminded the Radio Icengelo staff of their mandate to evangelize through the radio station.

Zambia has 9 Catholic run radio stations. Recently, the Bishops Conference set up Lumen TV while the Jesuits have Loyola TV.

Both television stations are in Lusaka.
