In his message to mark the commemoration of the 2021 World Day for the Sick which falls on 11th February, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has acknowledged the care and love the frontline workers demonstrate to the sick.

This year’s World Day for the Sick is being observed when the world is devastated by the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

The ZCCB Bishop Director for Health Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga, OFM Conv. has said this in an audio statement issued on 11th February,2021.

Bishop Chisanga has since assured frontline workers in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic of God’s blessings.

He further acknowledged the efforts of people that sit by the bedside of the sick in health facilities and homes providing care and support to the sick day and night, saying their efforts are not in vain.

Bishop Chisanga has also commended to the love of God all health workers who in the process of carrying out their duties have contracted the Coronavirus and have since died.

February 11 is World Day of the Sick, an observation introduced by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses.

The day coincides with the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes and is an important opportunity for those who serve in Catholic health ministry to reflect on caring for those who are sick as well as those who provide care to the sick.
