As Zambia Celebrates 56th Independence Day this week, Bishop Charles Kasonde of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, Zambia, has called on leaders to examine themselves on how they are playing their role in society.

Rt. Rev. Kasonde says that this is in order to ensure that leaders act justly and fairly without favouring one or the other while providing a flat platform to co-exist as Zambians.

Speaking when he officiated on Radio Kabangabanga 56th independent celebration programme dubbed ‘The role of the Church in uniting the country’ Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde added that more has been given to leaders and more is expected of them, hence the call to mirror the love of Jesus Christ by preaching justice, peace and love so that every person can enjoy the world that God has given us.

He said justice, peace and love should be the threshold of Independence Day celebrations which are held annually.

Bishop Kasonde however noted that a lot is demanded from every individual over the task that is given, adding that this can only be done by recognizing the mistakes one has made.

This year Zambia which is a former colony of Great Britain celebrates its 56th Independence this Sunday, 24th October, 2020.
