MALAWI: Young Christian Workers at Mthawira Contribute the Most at Parish Fundraising Event

Christ the King Catholic Church that is also popularly known as Mthawira Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Blantyre last Sunday crowned a youth grouping of Young Christian Workers (YCW) for contributing the most in a fundraising event that took place on 7th September 2020.

Members of the YCW at Mthawira Catholic deepen down into their pockets to contribute to over US$750 among all church groups and Small Christian communities under the Church.

In his speech, Chairperson of Church Council at Mthawira, Gracian Tukula commended the Youths for understanding their role in the Church and their responsibility as pillars of the Catholic Church in the future.

“Last year, they invited me to attend their end of year party and I honoured the invitation where I challenged them to do more in supporting the Church; that they should not look down upon themselves. Here they are, they have carried the day,” said Tukula.

Tukula also commended the YCW youths under the Church for being supportive in a number of development activities organised by Church leaders.

He then challenged other Church groups under Mthawira Catholic Church to follow the good example set by YCW in supporting the Church.

Leader of Mthawira YCW Section, Edgar Nyirenda said their generous contribution to the drive was guided by the YCW motto that challenges them to See, Judge and Act.

“When our leaders made an appeal to everyone in the Church to contribute generously, we saw it worthy to support the Church and the purpose of the event justified the Judgement to support the Church hence that act,” said Nyirenda.

The Section of YCW at Mthawira has less than thirty active members who have the zeal to See, Judge, and Act on Spiritual, Social matters in the society.

Mthawira Catholic Church organised the fundraising event to get funds to complete building a fence around Church land and keep some funds for the purchase of a Church bus. The event on 7th September 2020 has helped the Church to source over US$6,533

Mthawira Catholic Parish which has two out-churches, Kameza and Chikapa, has over twenty-five small Christian communities.
