Bishop of Mbulu Catholic Diocese in the Southern of Tanzania Rt. Rev. Antony Lagwen has issued an Easter message, urging Tanzanians to take precautions against Coronavirus.

On the forthcoming General Elections this year, he has urged all Tanzanians to choose a leader who doesn’t puts in front personal interest.

Bishop Lagwen said that the Easter celebration reveals to us the light of hope and victory of God, which is the reason for joy and peace in the soul of a baptized person.

“Easter is the celebration of Christ’s victory aimed at the redemption of humankind. Christ suffered and died on the cross; this is proof of God’s unshakable power over evil. God’s power conquers all; Christ has overcome sin that results in death and has given humankind the hope for a new life, a life of grace,” says Bishop Lagwen.

“During this Easter celebration, I would like also to emphasize two important things going on in our country: the spread of Coronavirus and preparations for the forthcoming General Election 2020,” he said.

“Easter, is the foundation of our Christian faith. This year we are navigating the crisis caused by the COVID 19 Coronavirus – the Covid-19. This is a global disaster,” he added.

Bishop Lagwen further said that everyone has been affected by the epidemic regardless of continent, country, race, education, economy, technology, environment.

“Some people have lost their life because of the disease; many are living in fear and despair,” he expressed.

He therefore insisted that there is need for joint professional efforts on how to prevent the spread of the virus and completely eradicate the disease.

“Perhaps we are wondering where our support will come from? Our help will come only from God (Ps. 121: 1-2) who created the heavens and the earth. Only he can remove this threat and restore peace,” said Rt. Rev. Lagwen.

“So, join us in prayer for Tanzania. Let us ask God to protect us, to keep us safe from this tragedy – so that we may be safe and secure. However, while seeking God’s help, let us also exercise our responsibility by taking into account all the instructions provided by the World Health Organization, the government and all other stakeholders as precautionary measures.”
