TANZANIA: The Local Government Election Should Be Fair and Justice
The President of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Most Rev. Gervas Nyaisonga, said that as the nation of Tanzania is approaching Local Government Elections on 24th November 2019, everyone should be given the right to participate.
He said this during the climax of the Extra Ordinary Month of Evangelization which took place on 10th November in the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
He insisted that the Electoral Committee must comply with all electoral rules and regulations for the benefit of the nation and the dignity of the people, in pursuit of fairness and justices.
“I congratulate those who registered to vote because they have recognized their fundamental right. As we approach the Local Government Elections, everyone should adhere to the basic principles and rights. Each candidate should be given an opportunity people are well informed of their policies,” he said.
He has warned against the pressure of selecting people based on friendship, brotherhood, religion and ethnicity, rather than focusing on the integrity and ability to print jobs for the public good.
He insists that all candidates in all positions should contest for the development of the people and voters should give themselves a chance to listen to them, never to choose a person based on their name or any other status, but only because they feel they have a vision that can bring them development.
He wants Tanzanian to vote for leaders who have a vision of development that is focused on human dignity, justice and a willingness to be responsible for the public good. However, there is pressure among opposition political parties and citizens after Tanzania’s opposition party has said it plans to boycott local elections later this month, accusing the government of impeding its candidates from running and making a mockery of democratic processes.
