SOUTH SUDAN: Conference Ends With Resolutions On Peace And Humanitarian Assistance
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in collaboration with Inter-Faith Based Council for Peace initiative in Western Equatoria recently organized a peace conference in Maridi State under the theme “Unity and Peaceful coexistence for Development”.
Khamis Nando a representative of Tambura State says their priorities include conducive environment for humanitarian access to SPLA-IO cantonment sites and repatriation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner of Gbudue State James Mande says both the Government and the Opposition have agreed to open corridors for humanitarian services and free movement of people in the areas.
Similarly, the Maridi State Minister of Education Joseph Leyer Denima also agreed to free flow of humanitarian services and the return of IDPs to their places of origin.
Christopher Murenga, UNMISS Head of Field Office in Western Equatoria Region has appealed to all stakeholders to localize the agreement and implement it at the grass root level.
The peace conference brought together governors, parliamentarians, Religious leaders, SSPDF and the opposition and chiefs from the four States of Western Equatoria Region.
