KENYA: Diocesan Synod Ends With Resolve To Develop A Pastoral Guide

The week long Diocesan Synod of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega ended on 14th June 2019 with a resolution to to develop a pastoral guide for the Diocese of Kakamega.

In his speech during the closing Mass at Bishop Stam Pastoral Centre in Kakamega, the Local Ordinary Rt. Rev. Joseph Obanyi thanked God who enabled the delegates to come together and deliberate on important issues that would enhance pastoral work in the Diocese. He appreciated all the delegates for their significant and active participation during the Synod.

“It has been a moment to pray and come up with pastoral orientations and guidelines that will keep all members of the family of God in Kakamega effective and more productive in their faith and responsibility,” he said.

The prelate said that the Synod has helped the Diocese to have a unique encounter with God. “As we reflected on our the life of the Church in our diocese, our faith and responsibility, we have recommitted ourselves, both individually and collectively, to building a life that helps each one of us to reach holiness”

Bishop Obanyi reminded the Synod delegates that the aim of the Diocesan Synod is to help the bishop fulfil his ministry in terms of governance of the Christian community entrusted to him, adding that after this phase it is now the responsibility of the Bishop to formulate those proposals into norms and pastoral guidelines of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega.
