On Saturday, March 2nd 2019, the Diocese of Mangochi conducted a three-day training workshop to equip parish news correspondents on use of modern means of communication for evangelization, with funding from SIGNIS.

In his inaugural speech, Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima, Bishop of Mangochi Diocese, urged participants to prioritize faith in their undertakings citing that Journalism without Jesus is nothing.

“Jesus was the best communicator of Good News while here on earth. He knew how to effectively proclaim the message of peace and love. I urge you to emulate his example as journalists if at we are to excel in our endeavours,” said the bishop.

He said that such training are timely as many development activities in the diocese go unreported such as in the context of education, health and pastoral ministry.

“My dear brothers and sisters, your presence is a clear testimony that Jesus Christ is calling you to be his witnesses and agents of peace and evangelization. It is my hope that, courtesy of this training, you will make the difference out there,” said Bishop Stima.

Mangochi Diocese Communications Coordinator Fr. Harry Mang’anda, in his concluding remarks, hailed the overwhelming patronage to the training and further urged participants to be proactive and vigilant in reporting each and every pastoral and social development event and activity happening in their respective parishes.

“You have acquired new Journalism knowledge. The ball is now in your court. Make good use of the knowledge acquired, even for our presence on the website to become fully fledged,” he said.

Fr. Mang’anda further asked the correspondents to always inquire, inform and consult with parish priests so as to move in the same wave length with them.

At least 24 correspondents from all parishes within Mangochi Diocese patronized the training, including representatives of Catholic Media Organizations based in the Diocese, namely Radio Maria, Luntha TV and Montfort Media.
