KENYA: The Book God’s Quad: Small Faith Communities on Campus and Beyond is Launched

The Book God’s Quad: Small Faith Communities on Campus and Beyond published by the Maryknoll Society publishing house, Orbis Book has finally been launched both in Rome-Italy on Monday October 1st; in New York City-USA and at Hekima College Nairobi-Kenya both on Thursday 27th September.

Speaking at the launch in Nairobi, Rev. Fr. Joseph Healey, MM who authored chapter two of the book titled What Young People Really Wants to Talk About without their parents, teachers and Church leaders present said that the book is the experience of young people around the world and they produced it in preparation for the Synod of Bishops on Young People Faith and Vocation Discernment, which began in Rome on Wednesday October 3rd.

IMG_2770Fr. Healey draws a lot of inspiration from the late Rt. Rev. Patrick Augustine Kalilombe, who was the Bishop of Lilongwe and championed the formation of Small Christian Communities in Eastern Africa. He (Fr. Healey) says that that his chapter in the book reveals the issues young people want to talk about. He further explained that the the subtitle of the book Small Faith Communities on Campus and Beyond captures the challenge of promoting young people’s participation in Small Christian Communities.

“For me the Beyond is the challenge. What happens after college, after university? So many young people disappear. But we are saying that there are three new ways that will help encourage the young people to continue participating in Small Christian Communities after college and universities,” he explained.

“Number one is to have their own peer faith sharing groups; number two is the online Small Christian Communities. We need to go on the internet and form a new way of community through online platform such as Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media. And finally, number three is Specialized Small Christian Communities after college and university under what we call young professionals,” Fr. Healey explained adding that they are creating a new path by walking.

His hope is that through the book, the voice of young people especially in Africa will be heard loud and clear in Rome during this Synod.
