AMECEA: CUEA Chancellor Commends the Foresight of AMECEA Fathers

The new
Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Most Rev Berhaneyesus
D. Souraphiel, has commended the ingenuity and foresight of the Founders of
AMECEA that led to the establishment of the University in the region.

Berhaneyesus was speaking during the thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration at
main university Langata campus in Nairobi on Thursday 2nd 2014,
ahead of the 30th graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday 3rd
October 2014. “Investing on education was the greatest gift the founders wanted
to share with the people of this region,” he said.

Archbishop said he remembers how humbly CUEA started when it was inaugurated by
Pope John Paul II, (now Saint John Paul II), “That humble beginning was the
beginning of a larger family we are experiencing today,” he said.

The
Chancellor urged graduating students to nurture the virtue of humility. “When
you graduate remember to be humble because that virtue of humility will make
you become a member of the kingdom of God,” he said.

Berhaneyesus asked the congregation to remember the countries of AMECEA, like South Sudan, which are experiencing difficulties. “Just imagine the students in South
Sudan, just imagine under what atmosphere studies are undertaken,?” he asked adding that “We
are have to be grateful to the Government of Kenya for guaranteeing security in
Kenya to enable you pursue your studies in a serene environment.”

He asked the
congregation to remember and pray for those students who did not manage to
finish their studies because of various reasons.

beginning of the celebration the new Chancellor was officially welcomed and
introduced to the congregation by CUEA Council Chairman, Bishop Maurice Muhatia
Makumba, Bishop of Nakuru diocese in Kenya.

A total of 1,954
students graduated on 3rd October 2014 an event which was graced by
Kenya’s Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Henry Rotich
