MALAWI: CAMECO Officer Visits Catholic Media Institutions

representative from the Catholic Media Council (CAMECO) responsible for African
Desk, Ms Petra Stammen made an official visit to various Catholic Media Houses in
the country in December 2013 with a promise that CAMECO will continue to
support Communications activities in the country.

Stammen who entered Malawi via Karonga from Tanzania on a similar mission, visited
Karonga Diocese’s yet to be established Tuntufye Radio Station, Radio Tigabane
of Mzuzu Diocese, National Catholic Secretariat’s Communications Department in
Lilongwe, Radio Alinafe of Lilongwe Archdiocese, Luntha Television and Radio
Maria in Mangochi Diocese.
in Karonga Diocese Ms Stammen was able to see the preparation already in place
for establishing a new Catholic Radio station ‘Radio Tuntufye’ in the country. According
to Ms Stammen, her visit to Karonga Diocese basically meant to have an
on-the-ground experience of the radio preparation plan. Diocese of Karonga
already submitted a project proposal through CAMECO for further consultation in
order to solicit funds from partners.

in laying ground for the setting up of the radio station.
his part, the Episcopal Conference of Malawi’s National Communications
Secretary, Fr. Andrew Kaufa commended CAMECO for sending their representative
to Africa and Malawi in particular, so that she can see for herself issues
affecting the country’s Catholic media industry on the ground.

of Catholic Media Institutions ought to be assisted in several ways
including capacity building and supply of radio or television equipment. He said
his office will strive to bring a difference in terms of how Catholic Media
Institutions operate and collaborate to each other. He said currently the
national office is renovating its studios with an aim of intensifying
production of programs that will be shared with the existing Catholic Media
Houses and other Public and Private institutions.
