in 2010.The Bishops of AMECEA endorsed the program during the AMECEA 17th
Plenary and asked the AMECEA Secretariat to adapt the proposal for the
implementation while taking it as one of the resolutions of the Plenary.
Subsequent to that particular
resolution, another meeting was held in Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania between 10th
and 13th October 2011 to identify the immediate needs to be attended
to in the whole of AMECEA Region. After the Dar-es-Salaam meeting, a report was
sent to the USCCB after which Mr. Markey and Mr. Zuger visited AMECEA Secretariat
in Nairobi in early 2012 to review the report before the commencement of the
project.
In an effort to further deepen the relationship between
AMECEA and USCCB, three delegates from AMECEA Secretariat made a two weeks visit
to USCCB offices in Washington D.C to discuss with US Solidarity fund for
Africa (a branch under USCCB) a number of issues including the leadership
training program.
Apart from USCCB the delegates had a chance of visiting the
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) headquarter in Baltimore before heading to Notre
Dame University for further deliberation.
In May 2012, the first Training
Workshop for the Bishop was conducted, followed by another one in May 2013
which was also attended by Mr. Fritz Zuger from USCCB as an observer. In August
2013, another workshop was organized for Vicars General; Diocesan Secretaries General, Heads of
Various Commissions/Departments and Financial Administrators from all the
Catholic Diocese of the Episcopal Conference of Ethiopia. A total of forty
