SOUTH AFRICA: AMECEA Participates in IMBISA Social Media training Workshop

Three members of staff from AMECEA Secretariat participated in the
Social Media workshop which was organized by   Inter-regional Meeting of Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA) in Cape Town,
South Africa from June 19-23, 2013.

Those who took part in the training from AMECEA are Fr Ferdinand
Lugonzo, AMECEA Secretary General, Fr Chrisantus Ndaga, Secretary for Social
Communications and Fr Jude Waweru, Justice and Peace Coordinator.

The workshop which was funded by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) meant to
impart skills in setting up Web blog, Website and Social Media applications in
order to provide a wider forum for Evangelisation, Promotion of Good Governance
and Justice and Peace in accordance with Africae Munus Papal document.

While commenting on this after the workshop, the Secretary General of
AMECEA Fr Ferdinand Lugonzo said that this initiative was a great step towards
enhancing collaboration between AMECEA and IMBISA which has been there for
years. In addition to that he regarded the workshop training as an effort
towards the invitation that the Holy See made to the Church in Africa and the
whole world to engage positively in New Media as a powerful tool in
Evangelization.

Fr.  Ferdinand Lugonzo thanked the Director of IMBISA Secretariat
Fr. Richard Menatsi and the organisers of the workshop for planning and organising
such an important workshop which brought together the two regions.

The workshop was also attended by three participants from Symposium
of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar  (SECAM).

After the workshop the participants had a chance to visit Roben Island,
a place where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years as a political prisoner.
