The Apostolic
\nNuncio to Kenya, His Excellency Daniel Charles Balvo has pleaded that the Peace
\nmessage that was delivered by various leaders during the Second Inter-diocesan Conference
\non Peace and Cross Border Evangelization\u201d trickles down to the parties involved
\nin conflict.<\/p>\n

\nThe Apostolic
\nNuncio gave this message during his visit to Lodwar Diocese where he also
\nattended the Second Inter-diocesan Conference on Peace and Cross Border Evangelization
\nthat was held in the Diocese from 8th to 10th December
\n2013. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Nuncio
\nencouraged those working for peace in the Karamoja cluster to always remember
\nthat their efforts will be rewarded and the enemies of peace will surely be subdued.
\nQuoting a verse from the Gospel of the day (2nd
\nSunday Advent 2013,<\/i>\u2026..t<\/i>hen the
\nWolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
\nthe calf and the young lion shall browse together,\u2026\u2026..there shall be no harm<\/i>,\u2019 <\/i>the Nuncio said like wise one day the
\nenemies will stay together without harming each other.<\/div>\n

\nThe Turkana -Pokot
\nand the neighboring region have been hit by frequent castle rustling and land
\nissue related to cattle keeping which claimed the lives of many people.
\nRecently, the Catholic Bishops of Lodwar and Kitale, Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich
\nand Rt. Rev. Maurice Crowley in the company of Most Rev. Zacchaeus Okoth
\nChairman KCCB-Catholic Justice and Peace Commission issued a statement addressing
\nthe problem as they termed it as one of the most protracted and intractable
\nconflicts in the post independent Kenya.However, since then nothing changed
\nmuch as the killings still continue.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDuring the
\nInter-diocesan Conference on Peace and Cross Border E<\/a>vangelization,
\nBishop Kimengich, whose diocese hosted the event said that since they issued
\nthe statement asking the government to take action, nothing has changed and in
\nfact the situation is getting worse. He said that they have tried to bring
\nlocal leaders in the area together, but it seems they are not ready to
\ndialogue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

\nthe government to move in quickly and establish a no-man\u2019s land between the
\nTurkana and the Pokot,” said Bishop Kimengich.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nTurkana County
\nsenator, Hon. John Munyes said during the conference that the government will
\nwork closely with the Church to ensure that peace is maintained in the county.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nMeanwhile, the Turkana
\nCounty Governor, Mr. Josephat Kooli Nanok has blamed the National government for
\nnot moving fast enough to solve the boundary dispute between the Turkana and
\nthe Pokot communities.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Turkana \u2013
\nPokot conflict has a long history but in recent days the shrinking of pasture
\nlands, water and cattle rustling have fueled the problem. Due to the protracted
\nconflict, the communities in the area have acquired arms which are also
\nusing cattle rustling, kill the so called their enemies and maim innocent
\ncitizens while women and children becoming the victims.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nA total of 75
\nparticipants from seven Dioceses: Torit in South Sudan, Kotido and Moroto in
\nUganda, Vicariate of Jimma Bonga in Ethiopia; Nakuru, Lodwar, Kitale and Ngong
\nin Kenya attended the conference. <\/div>\n
