\nApostolic Nuncio to Kenya Most Rev. Charles Daniel Balvo has called the
\ndisagreeing parties in South Sudan to come together and work out their
\ndifferences without resorting to violence.<\/div>\n

The
\nApostolic nuncio made this call during his official visit to AMECEA
\nSecretariat on Wednesday 18th December, 2013.  \u201cIt is disheartening to read news
\nof violence at any time,\u201d he said adding that  “I know that it is not easy to overcome
\ndifferences but it is my hope that those who are disagreeing can somehow come
\nto an agreement for the good of the people,” he said.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\nHe
\nasked that as the world is celebrating the birth of the prince of peace,
\nhopefully the people of South Sudan will find a real reconciliation of their
\ndifferences and a lasting peace.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThis
\nis first time for Most Rev Balvo to visit AMECEA secretariat since his arrival
\nin Kenya in June, 2013. The Nuncio\u2019s visit coincided with an official closing
\nMass of Christmas recess in which he was the Main celebrant. <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe
\nApostolic Nuncio conveyed his best wishes messages to Secretariat staff as they
\nwere closing the secretariat for Christmas holidays. \u201cIn many different parts
\nof the world there are all sorts of traditions and everyone is up and about around
\nChristmas but the most important thing to remember is the reason why we
\ncelebrate which is the gift of God to us, the gift of God\u2019s son and I think
\nwhatever it is we must do in our families to celebrate the day, the most
\nimportant thing is to really remember what it is for; this great act of God
\nfor us,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe
\nApostolic further assured the secretariat staff that the door to the Nunciature\u2019s
\noffice would always be open to them and in whatever way they would try to be of
\nassistance to them. “One of the things that Pope Francis is certainly
\ninsisting very much on is to realize that what we do should be of the
\nservice to the people,” he said.<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\nSecretary General Fr Lugonzo explained to him that AMECEA, being an Association
\nof Bishops in Eastern Africa is founded on three pillars: Communion among
\nBishops, Cooperation and Solidarity  in
\naddressing common issues of pastoral concern in the region. \u201cIt is the duty of
\nthe secretariat to help the Bishops build these three pillars,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n

\nhonoring the invitation to come to the secretariat. \u201cThe secretariat is privileged to have You around this time as we
\nknow that this is only the beginning of your visit to our Offices,\u201d he said
\nadding that \u201cWe wish you Merry Christmas and A blessed New Year 2014.\u201d<\/div>\n
