\nKenyans have been called upon to strive to make
\nKenya a peaceful, prosperous and a stable Country by promoting dialogue,
\nreconciliation and forgiveness during this jubilee year of Mercy announced by
\nPope Francis.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn his homily during the Launch of 2016 National
\nLenten Campaign on 7th, February, 2016 at St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Ngong
\nDiocese, The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) \u2013 Catholic Justice and
\nPeace Commission Chairman Rt. Rev. Cornelius Korir said, Kenya is a blessed
\nCountry and her people beginning with the leaders need to shun corruption,
\nnegative ethnicity and radicalization that tears the Country apart and embrace
\noneness, tolerance of one another and creation of job opportunities for the
\nyouth.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nLent is a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and
\npenance before Easter. In the Christian tradition, this is the period of the
\nliturgical year from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday (Sundown). This annual
\ncommemoration prepares the faithful through prayer, repentance, giving alms and
\nself-denial, for the events linked to the Passion of Christ and the celebration
\nof his resurrection.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nReferring to Pope Francis\u2019 Lenten message, Bishop
\nKorir reiterated that \u201cthe season of Lent in this jubilee year be lived more
\nintensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God\u2019s mercy.\u201d He
\ncalled on Kenyans to forget their past experiences and to forgive and love one
\nanother as the country moves towards the general election 2017.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe added that \u201cin the season of Lent, the Catholic
\nChurch calls her faithful to be in fellowship and solidary with their brothers
\nand sisters who are less fortunate and support the church through prayers,
\nself-denial and alms giving.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nLeading by example, KCCB steered by CJPC National
\nExecutive Secretary Beatrice Odera donated clothes and foodstuff to more than
\nfour thousand households in Mathare slums in Ngong Town after the Launch of the
\nLenten campaign.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn the same spiritual mood of lent, Kenyans have
\nbeen called upon to reflect and advocate for change in problems affecting the
\nsociety on selected topics for reflection for five weeks: Responsible
\ncitizenry, care environment, family values, insecurity and corruption
\nrespectively.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Launch that was preceded by a walk through
\nNgong Town to the Cathedral was attended by Ngong Bishop Rt. Rev. John Oballa Owaa,
\nrepresentatives from The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern
\nAfrica (AMECEA) Countries, KCCB, CJPC diocesan coordinators, the faithful and
\nGovernment officials who were also issued with Lenten Campaign booklets. <\/div>\n
