\nThe Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) through
\nthe Department of Research, in collaboration with Actionaid International Kenya
\nheld a two day workshop on 28th and 29th January 2014, on Transforming Girls
\nEducation in a Violence Free Environment, at the University. <\/p>\n

The researchers
\ntraining and the consequent baseline survey data collection commencing on January
\n30th to 9th February 2014, marks the beginning of the two year project funded
\nby the Department of International Department (DFID), also known as UKAID.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n <\/div>\n
\nAccording to Mr. Sam Oando, from the Research Department
\nat the University, the project \u201cTransforming Girls Education in a Violence Free
\nEnvironment\u201d seeks to understand and address the root causes and consequences
\nof violence against girls, and its impact on the enjoyment of their rights to
\nand in education.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nDiscussing the Child Protection Policy that is based on
\nthe UN Convention on Rights of the Child Principals, Ms. Joan Marende, National
\nProject Manger, Actionaid International Kenya, observed that forms of child
\nabuse and exploitation include: emotional, physical, social, sexual and
\nneglect. She further defined children in difficult circumstances as those
\n\u201cchildren for whom there is an apparent threat to life or an emergency
\nsituation.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nCUEA in partnership with Actionaid shall work with a team
\nof researchers, from different parts of Kenya and from various faculties
\nincluding the Faculty of Education in the University coordinated by the
\nDepartment of Research. This project shall be implemented simultaneously in
\nfive different regions in Kenya. These are: Nyarongi (Homa Bay County), Kuria
\n(Migori County), Kishushe (Taita Taveta County), Kamuthe (Garissa County) and
\nMarafa (Malindi County).<\/div>\n
