\nThe Diocese
\nof Malakal (Upper Nile in the capital of South Sudan) has been completely
\ndestroyed because of the fighting between the two rival factions of the SPLM
\n(Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, the ruling party) and thus calls for
\nhumanitarian Aid and re-building strategies.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nAccording to
\ninformation received from Msgr. Roko Taban Musa, the Apostolic Administrator of
\nthe diocese of Malakal, who was in Juba recently to attend the Bishops
\nextraordinary plenary, the facilities built in eight years of sacrifice in the
\nStates of Upper Nile, Unit\u00e0 and Jonglei have been destroyed.  <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nMonsignor
\nRoko attributed destruction to the \u2018power hungry\u2019 leaders on whom he wanted
\nthem to learn from it. He called all the faithful to pray for the diocese of
\nMalakal.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nMonsignor
\nTaban urged South Sudanese to unite and avoid the example of belonging to
\nApollo, Cyprus, Paul and Jesus. The Apostolic Administrator called on
\nChristians to change from the ideologies of war and conflicts into Peace and
\nLove.<\/div>\n

Houses known as Tukuls<\/em> <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
\nReport from
\nother sources said that about 210 houses famously known \u201ctukuls\u201d burned to the
\nground in one of the city’s quarters and neighborhoods reduced to ashes. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nDespite the
\nceasefire signed on 23 January in Addis Ababa, the UN Mission in South Sudan
\ncontinues to record sporadic fighting in the Upper Nile and Jonglei State. Both
\nsides accuse each other of violating the truce and crimes against civilians. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nMalakal is a
\nmulti-ethnic city, housing Shilluk, Nuer, Dinka, Bari and many others, has been
\nthe location of recent violence, with reports that much of it has been across
\nethnic lines. Nearly 25,000 people are sheltered in the U.N. compound in the
\nnorthern part of town.<\/div>\n
