Fighting
\nbroken out again in the town of Malakal, Upper Nile state (Diocese of Malakal)<\/em> as
\nreports said that fresh fighting erupted on Tuesday morning this week.<\/p>\n

\nAccording to Catholic Radio Network the opposition claim to take control of parts of the
\ntown of Malakal. This is the first major clashes since the government and
\nrebels signed a ceasefire agreement on January 23, 2014<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBoth sides
\naccused each other of starting the violence in Malakal. The opposition
\nspokesman, Brigadier General Lul Ruai accused the government forces of
\nattacking their positions south and east of Malakal while the Presidential
\nspokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said the opposition forces begun the attack at
\n07:50  Tuesday morning and that the
\nfighting spread in most parts of the town. <\/div>\n

Meanwhile,<\/i> the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya
\nand South Sudan, His Excellency Archbishop Daniel Balvo has said that the civil
\nsociety need to be involved in future peace negotiations for the new nation.<\/div>\n

\nSpeaking
\nwith the Catholic Information Service for Africa (CISA) on February 17, 2014;
\nthe Apostolic Nuncio said that the Civ<\/a>il society
\norganizations and the Church have already asked the warring factions to lay
\ndown their arms and work out their differences adding that in the end it is the
\npeople who are suffering.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cIf there is
\nto be a permanent solution to the problems of South Sudanese, the civil society
\nneeds to be involved not just negotiations on the government level. I know some
\nof them went on their own to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia recently for the peace
\ntalks anyway but they should be actively involved always,\u201d he said adding that
\n\u201cIt is very hard to promote and create a society with generations of people
\nthat all they have known is violence.\u201d<\/div>\n

\nHe said that
\nin a country that has a lot of resources; it will not be easy to develop them
\nunless there is peace.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe noted
\nthat the church was doing a lot to help people in South Sudan through promotion
\nof their welfare and would continue to ensure that peace prevails in the
\nnation.<\/div>\n
