\nSeveral explosions have occurred in Zanzibar,
\nas Police have launched a manhunt on Tuesday (February 25th) for people
\nsuspected of making the explosives that targeted two churches and a tourist
\nrestaurant in Stone Town. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nInformation received from Tanzania said that
\non Monday 24, February, one blast took place at the Anglican cathedral, a
\nhistoric building in the heart of the narrow and winding streets of Stone Town,
\nslightly damaging a wall and a car parked near the gate. The other blast
\noccurred at Mercury, a seafront restaurant and bar popular with tourists.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAnother report said that on Sunday, explosion
\nwas also reported at the Assemblies of God Church at Kijitoupele in which an
\nunidentified person threw a purportedly homemade grenade inside the church as
\nprayers were in progress. No casualty was reported.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n“Fortunately the device fell in an empty
\nplace during Sunday mass. There was panic before police detectives arrived and
\ntook away the remains,” eyewitness reported adding that “Nobody was
\ninjured.”<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nPolice reports said that it is suspected that
\nthe blasts were caused by homemade bombs that were thrown by unidentified
\nthugs. However, investigations continue to find out details of the blasts and
\nthe motive behind them. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n“We are hunting for people behind these
\nincidents,” said Zanzibar Police Commissioner Hamdan Omar Makame adding
\nthat “We shall get them and ask members of the public to help search for
\nthe thugs who have caused unnecessary panic in Zanzibar.”<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Indian Ocean islands are a growing
\nheadache for the Tanzanian government because of religious tensions and deep
\nsocial and economic divisions.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nLast year there were several attacks on Church
\nleaders and structures and some targeted tourists.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn September 2013, a Roman Catholic priest
\nwas the target of an acid attack, while a month earlier two men threw a
\ncorrosive liquid over two British teenagers in Zanzibar.<\/div>\n
