text-align: justify;\">\n<b>KENYA: Commitment<br \/>\nStatement of AMECEA Justice Peace and Caritas First Regional Meeting held in<br \/>\nNairobi on 6th to 8th February 2016 <\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<b>Preamble<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-pllrEEHsPlA\/Vr3vZaDLWmI\/AAAAAAAAFcQ\/GsyRaaTAB6c\/s1600\/Justice%2BPeace%2Band%2BCaritas%2BMeeting.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"153\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/JusticePeaceandCaritasMeeting.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nIn<br \/>\nthe 17th Plenary of Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern<br \/>\nAfrica (AMECEA), the Bishops passed a resolution on the need for the Justice<br \/>\nand Peace as well as Caritas Commissions to find modalities to work closer<br \/>\ntogether in an effort to bring about the face of Christ to the people of God. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThis<br \/>\nresolution was strengthened during the 18th Plenary of AMECEA in Malawi in 2014<br \/>\nwhere the Bishops passed another resolution creating the department of Justice<br \/>\nPeace and Caritas in an effort to build synergies in the works of charity and<br \/>\nmercy. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThis<br \/>\ncollaboration was also emphasized in the MUMEMO; Declaration and the Kinshasa<br \/>\nDeclaration, which clearly outlines the integral nature of charity in the work<br \/>\nof the Church and the responsibility of the Bishops to guide this work as<br \/>\nstated in 25a of Deus Caritas Est: \u201cFor the Church, charity is not a kind of<br \/>\nwelfare activity which could equally well be left to others, but is a part of<br \/>\nher nature, an indispensable expression of her very being.\u201d <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nIn<br \/>\nthe same spirit, we the National Caritas Directors and the National Executive<br \/>\nSecretaries of Justice and Peace from the (AMECEA) Region are elated to have<br \/>\nbeen able to carry forward this spirit of the AMECEA Bishops and have been able<br \/>\nto hold our first joint meeting in Nairobi which is a first of its kind in the<br \/>\nregion and true in the continent.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThis<br \/>\nmeeting is a culmination of a series of meetings and events and ultimately in<br \/>\naccordance with the directive issued by His Holiness Pope Francis to find ways<br \/>\nof holding hands and creating more efficiency and effectiveness in an effort to<br \/>\nserve the people of God better and especially in the spirit of St. Francis of<br \/>\nAssisi who reminds us that the bond between concern for nature, justice for the<br \/>\npoor, commitment to society, and interior peace are inseparable. <i>(Laudato Si 10).<\/i>&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<b>COMMITMENT STATEMENT&nbsp; <\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nWe<br \/>\nthe National Caritas Directors and National Justice and Peace Executive<br \/>\nSecretaries from the AMECEA Region therefore declare that: <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nInspired<br \/>\nby the call of Pope Benedict XVI, to serve with professionalism, compassion and<br \/>\ncare with formation of the heart, we commit ourselves to always have the face<br \/>\nof Christ in all our work with a clear focus on enhancing the dignity of the<br \/>\npeople of God.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Inspired<br \/>\nby the call of Pope Benedict XVI, to serve with professionalism, compassion and<br \/>\ncare with formation of the heart, we commit ourselves to always have the face<br \/>\nof Christ in all our work with a clear focus on enhancing the dignity of the<br \/>\npeople of God.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n2.&nbsp;&nbsp;We<br \/>\nJustice, Peace and Caritas Heads of Departments from AMECEA member countries<br \/>\nwill continue working together through information and knowledge sharing and we<br \/>\ncall upon other social departments to hold hands to serve the human persons. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We<br \/>\ncall upon AMECEA Justice Peace and Caritas Department to invest more in<br \/>\nresearch on topical areas affecting our conferences which include extractives,<br \/>\nmigration\/trafficking, conflict resolution, climate change and livelihoods <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n4.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;We<br \/>\ncommit ourselves to ensure good stewardship in our work for the common good of<br \/>\nall and commit ourselves to focus our programmes on formation guided by<br \/>\nCatholic Social Teaching while emphasizing on ownership and sustainability.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We<br \/>\nrecognize the complexity of the issues of exploitation in the extractives<br \/>\nindustries in our region which does not benefit our people, we commit ourselves<br \/>\nto have a stronger voice on negative effects of extractives and economic<br \/>\ninjustices.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n6.&nbsp;&nbsp;We<br \/>\nrecognize the reoccurrence of emergencies in our region. We thus commit<br \/>\nourselves to develop strategies to work towards building an emergency<br \/>\nsolidarity fund to respond efficiently and effectively to different disasters<br \/>\nin the region and within the national conferences.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -18pt;\">\n7.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;We<br \/>\nare concerned with human trafficking and undocumented migration caused by a<br \/>\nnumber of factors.&nbsp; Persons who are<br \/>\nvictims have to be handled with human dignity.
