\nThe Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG))
\nhas recommended that voter education be intensified in all the civic centers in
\nthe districts in order to make people understand the requirements as voters.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nPresenting a Long Term Observation (LTO)) report
\non the electoral landscape on Zambia on Thursday 18th February, 2016, CCMG
\nspokesperson Fr. Cleophas Lungu said that voter education is a priority given
\nthat the period for registration has been reduced by a month. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr Lungu urged political parties to take the
\nopportunity to encourage the public to come out in big numbers and register as
\nvoters.  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr. Lungu further recommended that voter education
\nshould start right away for that there are new issues in the electoral process
\ndue to the amendment of the constitution which people need to know them before
\nthe exercise.  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nCCMG has pleaded to the ECZ to safeguard the
\nelectoral equipment\/kits which in the past have been reported stolen from the
\nregistration centres. CCMG stated that in order to avoid speculations and
\nmalpractices in the electoral process, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)
\nshould issue a statement to update the public about the equipment\/kits that
\nwere stolen during the mobile voter registration. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr. Lungu said that having witnessed violence in
\nthe period under review, CCMG is appealing to all political parties to refrain
\nfrom acts of violence including hate speech, physical violence and harassment
\nand declaring \u201cno go zone areas\u201d for some parties during campaigns; instead CCMG
\nwants all political parties to observe and abide with the rule of law. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOn another hand CCMG also recommends to the
\nZambian Police Service to be professional in the execution of their duties and to
\nthe media houses CCMG wants them to report issues credibly and accurately;
\nwithout fear or favour. \u201cMedia houses should be objectively to avoid
\npartisanship and bias in their news coverage,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) was
\nlaunched on 28th November 2014 to monitor the 20th January 2015 presidential
\nelection. It is made up of four Faith-Based organizations. These are Council of
\nChurches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), Jesuit Centre
\nfor Theological Reflections (JCTR), and Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC)
\nthrough Caritas Zambia.<\/div>\n
