The Catholic Church in Zambia will be
\nclocking 125 years in a year-long celebration that is set to commence in August
\n2016 and will continue till August 2017.<\/p>\n

\nAccording to Rev. Fr. Justine Matepa, the
\nPastoral Coordinator of Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC), these celebrations will
\ngo hand in hand with the Jubilee year of Mercy. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cZambia this year will be celebrating 125
\nyears since the coming of the first missionaries who brought the catholic faith
\nin the country. The conference has therefore tried to blend the two occasions,
\nthe celebration of 125 of catholic faith in the country and the Jubilee Year of
\nMercy,\u201d Fr. Matepa explained adding that the theme of the celebrations will be 125
\nyears of God\u2019s Love and Mercy<\/i><\/b>. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe theme was chosen in such a way that we
\ndon\u2019t lose out on either of the significant celebration that is equally
\nimportant to us as a country,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe launch of the Jubilee Year of Mercy at
\nZambia Episcopal Conference was done at the individual Dioceses. However, the
\nconference held a big preparatory meeting for all the dioceses. Usually the
\nconference holds an Annual National Pastoral meeting, an annual event where all
\nthe diocesan pastoral coordinators and secretaries, the catechetical and
\nbiblical coordinators are invited to participate.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nSo in April 2015, the conference held a
\nthree-days meeting where it dedicated one full day to the preparations of the proceedings
\nand how to embrace the year of mercy<\/i>.\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nSo we had a joint preparatory meeting for
\ndeliberations on our immediate actions plus our future endeavors which were
\napproved by the Bishop upon presentation. Prominently was the suggestion to launch
\nthe Jubilee Year of Faith<\/i> beginning
\nat Diocesan level, going down to the deaneries and eventually to the parish
\nlevels; this according to Fr. Matepa has already happened.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThrough the office of the Pontifical Mission
\nSociety, there is a wrapper (Chitenge<\/i>)
\na cotton fabric with the logo<\/i> The Year of Mercy<\/b> and an image of Pope
\nFrancis printed, which is being sold and so far is doing quite well. Fr. Matepa
\nexplained that it is a symbolic representation of what is going on in terms of
\nvisibility around the country and within the church for the Jubilee Year of Mercy. <\/i><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWe also realized that we needed to do
\nsomething for the children and for the youth in order to include them in the
\ncelebrations of the Jubilee Year of Mercy<\/i>
\nand so we have come up with catechetical retreat material as a national office
\non recommendation of the same committee and that material will now be will be
\ncirculated by the third week of Lent to all Dioceses,\u201d he said. Additionally the
\nmaterial has already been tested on a group of youth animators for the
\nArchdiocese of Lusaka who received the material for the children and the Holy
\nChildhood animators.<\/div>\n
