\nThe Emeritus Bishop of Torit Rt Rev Paride Taban, on Saturday 11 October 2014 consecrated a multipurpose centre marking his Golden jubilee at his home area,
\nOpari.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop Taban said that the structure, known as Holy Rosary Church Multi-purpose Centre is a school, training and
\nprayer centre for the community, Emmanuel Radio reported.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDuring the celebration Bishop Taban baptized 18 infants. He said that the Sacrament means giving birth to new community in the Church.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nTorit Apostolic Administrator Monsignor
\nThomas Oliha congratulated Bishop Paride Taban on occasion of 50 years as a
\npriest serving in the vineyard of the Lord.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Apostolic Administrator urged all the
\nfaithful to emulate the long term service of Bishop Taban.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nEmeritus Bishop Paride Taban Kenyi was ordained a priest in 1964 and when missionaries were
\nexpelled from South Sudan, he was among few priests left and spent the two
\ndecades war in the country.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe was first appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Juba
\nas well as Titular Bishop of Tadamata on 28th January 1980. He was
\nTitula ordained Bishop of Tadamata on 4th May 1980. He was appointed
\nBishop of Torit on 2nd July 1983 and Resigned as Bishop of Torit on
\n7th February 2004.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe co-founded o the New Sudan Council of
\nChurches, which acted as a facilitator in peace negotiations during the Second
\nSudanese Civil War. Since his retirement he has been leading an effort to make
\npeace in Sudan\/South Sudan real by setting up the Kuron Peace Village,
\nestablished in 2005. In 2013, he won the 2013 Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize for
\nhis work at the Holy Trinity Peace Village in Kuron.<\/div>\n
