\nOn 12th
\nOctober 2014, the Uganda Ecclesiastical Community in Rome (UECR) joyfully
\ncongregated at the Uganda Martyrs\u2019 Parish in Rome to celebrate the colorful
\noccasion of the golden jubilee of the canonization of the Uganda Martyrs. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Chairman
\nof the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Most Rev. John Baptist Odama, Archbishop of
\nGulu was the Main celebrant in the solemn Mass of the Golden Jubilee
\ncelebrations which was attended by priests from various Catholic dioceses in
\nUganda, the religious, seminarians and the members of the Parish community \u2013
\nwho make up the Uganda Ecclesiastical Community in Rome.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn his
\nhomily, Archbishop Odama stressed the need to be faithful and obedient to God
\nas the Holy Martyrs of Uganda were to Christ. \u201cIn this faithfulness and
\nobedience, we have the wonderful example of our Lord Jesus Christ and the
\nBlessed Virgin Mary,\u201d the Archbishop said adding that Jesus Christ did the will
\nof God the Father and the Blessed Virgin Mary also gave her life in total
\nobedience to God.<\/div>\n

\nalso stressed that the martyrs came from various parts of Ugand<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

a, therefore in
\nthem there is model of holiness. \u201cWe have no excuse for not being saints. The
\nMartyrs are not only for Uganda but also for the entire world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\nAfter the
\nHoly Mass, the congregation had a luncheon together in which new members who are
\nmainly students were welcomed in a special way to the community. Archbishop
\nOdama thanked the leaders of the community and members for organizing the
\ncelebration. He also advised them to treasure the time they have in Rome and
\nstudy for the entire well-being of the Catholic Church.<\/div>\n

\ncanonized the Uganda Martyrs in St. Peter\u2019s Basilica in the Vatican when all
\nthe Bishops in the world were present at the Vatican for the Second Vatican
\nCouncil.  In the homily of the Canonizat<\/a>ion of the Uganda Martyrs on Sunday 18th October
\n1964, Pope Paul V1 noted, \u201cWe are
\nfamiliar with the lives of the great saints, martyrs and confessors, of Africa,
\nsuch as Cyprian, Felicity and Perpetua, and the great Augustine. Who would have
\nimagined that one day we should be adding to that list those names that are so
\ndear to us, the names of Charles Lwanga, Matthias Mulumba and their
\ntwenty companions?\u201d<\/i><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAfter the
\nCanonization, Pope Paul V1visited Uganda in 1969 and upon his return to Rome; he
\ndecreed that a Parish be established in honor of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda. It
\nis in this same Parish that the Ugandan Community gathered to celebrate the
\nfeast of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda.<\/div>\n
