\nChildren
\nfrom Blantyre Archdiocese have called on government and Church leaders to take
\na deliberate effort in protecting and safeguarding the rights of children who
\nare regarded as future leaders in the country\u2019s development.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Children
\nexpressed this at Saint Montfort, Catholic Institute (CI) during the
\nArchdiocese\u2019s celebrations of Holy Childhood Mass which attracted thousands of
\nCatholic Children drawn from all the Parishes in the Archdiocese.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe climax
\nof the celebrations was marked by Holy Mass which was presided over by His
\nGrace Archbishop Thomas Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese, while all liturgical arrangements
\nfor the Mass were done by the Children themselves. Later, after the Holy Mass,
\nthe children show cased different activities including poems, drama and songs
\nwhich were performed before His Grace the Archbishop.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn their
\npetition to the government and the Church, the Children are calling upon the
\nauthorities to promote education by supporting them with adequate teaching and
\nlearning materials including enough schools, elimination of child labour and
\nprovision of proper security to the children.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAccording to
\none Priscilla Njovuyalema who did the first reading during Mass, Children in
\nthis country and elsewhere face a number of challenges hence the need for the
\nleaders to address them.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn his
\nhomily, Archbishop Msusa acknowledged numerous challenges that children face
\nand called upon all stakeholders to join hands and make the life a child better
\nthan before.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cIt is our
\nresponsibility to make sure that our children are well protected. And it is for
\nthis reason that I also invite parents to make sure that they strive to support
\ntheir children to grow both in body and soul,\u201d said Archbishop Msusa.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe
\nArchbishop also called on Children and people of good will to pray for children
\nwho are currently struggling in their respective countries that peace should be
\nupon them at all times. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cPlease pray
\nfor your fellow children who were abducted in Nigeria, pray for your fellow
\nchildren within Malawi and elsewhere who are currently struggling in different
\nways. We should also pray for people who are violating children\u2019s rights that
\nthey should change their behavior and start loving children,\u201d said Archbishop
\nMsusa.<\/div>\n
\nThe
\nArchbishop also asked the children to pray for their parents, the priests,
\nreligious men and women and also to him too as well as the leaders of the
\ncountry including the president.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nEpiscopal
\nConference of Malawi is currently implementing a Child Protection Project with
\nan aim of strengthening the capacity of the Catholic Church in Malawi in
\ndealing with issues related to child abuse and creating children\u2019s safe
\nenvironment. Meanwhile, the Conference has development a Child protection
\npolicy.<\/div>\n
