Jacob Odwa, Secretary<br \/>\nGeneral of Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nSpeaking to <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">AMECEA Online News<\/i> from Juba, Fr. Odwa<br \/>\nsaid that the Church has not stopped its members from shaking hands at Mass and<br \/>\ndoes not intend to do so. On October 16, 2014 the South Sudanese government<br \/>\nissued a precautionary warning to parliamentarians, advising against shaking<br \/>\nhands, saying the decision is part of measures aimed at minimizing the threat<br \/>\nof contracting Ebola.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nSo far<br \/>\naccording to Fr. Odwa, there have been no known cases of Ebola outbreak in<br \/>\nSouth Sudan to warrant taking such precautionary measures. \u201cPeople have<br \/>\ncontinued shaking hands in the houses and everywhere else here in Juba despite<br \/>\nthe announcement that came through the radio stations<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/null\" name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a>,\u201d<br \/>\nhe said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nThe South<br \/>\nSudanese Information and Broadcasting Minister Michael Makuei Lueth said the<br \/>\ncabinet had resolved that people should not shake hands as part of ramped up<br \/>\nefforts being introduced in South Sudan.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nThe decision<br \/>\nwas taken at its ordinary meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir on Tuesday 14th<br \/>\nOctober.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nIn a<br \/>\nstatement broadcast by the state-owned South Sudan Television (SSTV) following<br \/>\nthe meeting, Lueth also announced additional screening measures for travelers<br \/>\nto and from West Africa, where an Ebola epidemic is sweeping several nations<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cIt is<br \/>\nadvised people should avoid shaking hands.
