He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala and Titular Bishop<br \/>\nof Casae in Numidia on 2nd June, 1999 and was ordained Titular Bishop of Casae<br \/>\nin Numidia on 17th April, 1999.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nAccording the Press<br \/>\nrelease, Bishop Ssekamanya completed his 75 birthday three years ago and<br \/>\nobediently to the law of the Church, duly submitted his resignation to the Holy<br \/>\nFather, but in view of the particular circumstances of that time, Bishop<br \/>\nSsekamanya was asked to remain in office until a successor could be found.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nBishop Matthias<br \/>\nSsekamanya, now 78, had also served as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese<br \/>\nof Kampala before he was appointed the first Bishop of Lugazi on November 30,<br \/>\n1996.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nSpeaking to <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">AMECEA Online News<\/i> from Uganda, Bishop<br \/>\nKakooza said that his appointment as the local ordinary of Lugazi has given him<br \/>\nopportunity to be a missionary. \u201cI am born in Kampala and have been here all my<br \/>\nlife, and I am leaving after 62 years; it is an opportunity for me to be a<br \/>\nmissionary,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nBishop<br \/>\nKakooza expressed gratitude to his predecessor Rt. Rev. Bishop Matthias<br \/>\nSsekamanya whom he said was his teacher in Spiritual Theology at the seminary.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen he was appointed Auxiliary bishop of Kampala, we met again when I was<br \/>\nappointed Vicar general of His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala and we worked<br \/>\ntogether,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cAs I am<br \/>\nsucceeding him, I am grateful and thank him for tremendous work he has done in<br \/>\nthe diocese of Lugazi.
