\nThe campaign
\nis aimed at creating awareness about the problem of domestic violence and to
\nbring about behaviour change. \u201cOur programme runs all year round but the
\ncampaign is intensified during the four weeks of the Season of Advent, which
\nprecede the celebration of Christmas, the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ,\u201d
\nSays the chairman of the Conference Most Rev. John Baptist Odama. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nMost Rev.
\nOdama who is also the Archbishop of Gulu who was giving a press statement in
\nregards to National Campaign on Domestic Violence, an initiative launched by
\nthe conference in collaboration with the Irish Organizations Trocaire and Irish
\nAid said that starting on 30th November 2014, which is the first
\nSunday of Advent for this year, the conference shall have prayers for peace
\nrecited at all Catholic parishes and sub-parishes in Uganda.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe
\nArchbishop encouraged Church leaders to preach against domestic violence in all
\nits forms. \u201cFamilies nationwide are also requested to pray for peace and be
\ncommitted to individually taking responsibility to ending domestic violence,\u201d
\nhe said. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe theme that
\nhas been chosen for this year’s campaign is, “SHARED DECISIONS, SHARED
\nDEVELOPMENT, SHARED HAPPINESS.\u201d This is with the belief that families working
\ntogether and praying together will be violence-free.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cLet us join
\nour hands together to fight against the vice of domestic violence, so that our
\nfamilies and communities may truly be places where the dignity of every person
\nis respected and where peace, joy, and love are experienced,\u201d the Archbishop
\nsaid.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe main
\ncampaign against domestic violence in Uganda by the Catholic Church has been
\ngoing on since 2010. Elsewhere in the country, similar campaigns championed by
\ncivil society members have been going on in the country from as early as 2001.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDomestic
\nviolence is typically hidden in the private domain where it is kept as a
\nshameful secret, forcing victims to suffer in silence. The campaign aims at creating
\nawareness about the problem bringing about behaviour change.<\/div>\n
