\nCatholic Diocese of Ifakara is observing the Year of
\nCatechesis for the Diocese which started on 19th March 2014 and will end on
\n19th March 2015 when they will be celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of the
\nDiocese.<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\nMelchior Libena, Bishop of Ifakara said that many issues, especially those
\nrelated to catechesis arose during and after the Year of Faith, which was
\ncelebrated between 2012 and 2013. \u201cThere was a need to strengthen the catechism
\nto our people so that even the faithful who studied catechesis long time ago, may
\nhave a chance of refreshing themselves during this year,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n

\nBishop
\nLibena said that the year of Catechesis basically entails intensive catechism throughout
\nthe diocese in various levels. \u201cAll Christians are encouraged to attend various
\nsessions regardless of whether they have received the training on catechism
\nbefore or not,\u201d he said adding that \u201cThe sessions are carried out in the Small
\nChristian Communities and other parish levels.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cOur aim is
\nthat by the time we reach the third anniversary of the inauguration of our
\ndiocese, many of our Christians will have renewed their Catechesis which they
\nlearnt long time ago and will have developed a deeper understanding of the
\nSacraments,\u201d the Bishop explained.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nApart from
\nthe emphasis on the year of Catechesis, Bishop Libena said that the diocese is
\nnow focusing more on education since the health sector is doing fairly well.
\n\u201cThe diocese runs a big a referral hospital with a capacity of more than 370
\nbeds and numerous dispensaries,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cAs far as
\neducation is concerned, there are numerous primary schools run by the Church,
\nhowever, the diocese only runs one secondary school and we feel that there is
\nneed to do more,\u201d the Bishop added.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nErected on
\n14th January 2012 and inaugurated on 19th March 2012, the
\nCatholic Diocese of Ifakara is the youngest Diocese of Tanzania Episcopal
\nConference (TEC). Ifakara, the headquarter of Kilombero District is a rural
\nmarket town in the Kilombero Valley, 420 km South East from Dar-es-Salaam. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Diocese
\ncovers over 14,000 Square Kilometers and has a population of about 323,000 of
\nwhich an estimated 85% are Roman Catholics. <\/div>\n
