\nPresident of
\nthe Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace His Eminence Peter Cardinal Turkson
\nhas challenged African leaders to formulate visions that would ensure social
\nTransformation for the continent. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nSpeaking on
\nThursday 13th November, at the opening of a three-day Conference on
\nSocial Transformation being held at Tangaza University College from 13-15
\nNovember, 2014 in Nairobi, Cardinal Turkson said that it is time for Africa to
\nformulate visions which can bring impact, promote and transform the lives of
\nthe people in the continent.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nCardinal
\nTurkson observed that there is a lot of dreaming about African transformation
\nbut probably the biggest expression of its character was when the African
\nleaders met in Japan on their program called \u2018Tokyo International Devolvement
\nfor Africa\u2019 where the Foreign Minister for Germany said that the African
\nTransformation and Renaissance being talked about will not take place until
\nsons and daughters of Africa capture and formulate their vision for the
\ntransformation of the continent and spearhead its movement.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cSocial
\nTransformation and Africa renaissance capture the vision of not only religious
\ngroup or faith based groups but also politicians,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nCiting NEPAD,
\nthe New Partnership for Africa’s Development which many thought was the launch
\nfor Africa Renaissance; Cardinal Turkson said it failed because \u201cThe
\nvisionaries of NEPAD formulated the visions and the dimensions for which they
\nthemselves failed to appreciate and did not commit themselves fully to.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe therefore
\nadvised that sons and daughters of this continent must become the protagonists
\nof social transformation.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Cardinal assured the participants the commitment of
\nthe Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace towards the process of Social
\nTransformation, which would be launched at the end of the three day conference.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAlso
\nspeaking at the event, the Director of Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, Dr.
\nFrancis Kuria who is the moderator of the conference said \u201cWe want our
\nsocieties transformed in a manner that brings out the best in us. And we have
\ncalled people from all faiths under the auspices of Tangaza University College
\nand the Catholic of Justice and Peace commission to seek ways in which we can
\naccomplish this task of social transformation.\u201d <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOn Saturday
\n15th November H.E. Peter Cardinal Turkson was expecting to give his
\nKeynote address.<\/div>\n
