\nThe Bishop Chairman
\nof Social Communications Department at the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC),
\nRt. Rev. Bernadini Mfumbusa has called the dioceses to consider having Social
\nMedia Apostolate in order to cope with the challenges of the digital
\ngeneration. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop
\nMfumbusa, who is the ordinary of Kondoa Diocese in Tanzania was on 27th
\nNovember 2014 addressing the participants of the conference organized by AMECEA
\nPastoral department on the revitalization of the Council of Laity for Eastern
\nAfrica which is currently going on in Dar-es-salaam Tanzania. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWhile giving
\npresentation on New Evangelization, Social Media, & the Laity, Bishop
\nMfumbusa said \u201cIn the present era of Social Media, People consult google not
\ncatechist or parish priest for information;.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWhat do
\n-\u201cgoogle& wikis\u201d say about the church? What do they say about your diocese,
\nabout your parish and about you as an agent of evangelization?\u201d he said adding
\nthat \u201cIt is high time that the Church must also be present online.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop
\nMfumbusa pointed out that mastering normative communication technology is a
\nMUST for effecting New Evangelization. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe therefore
\nrecommended two things which must be done to make Church remain relevant in the
\ndigital era. \u201cNumber one is to ensure web presence \u2013 create virtual parishes
\n& dioceses and number two is to enhance digital literacy amongagents of
\nevangelization throughongoing formation,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe Laity who
\nare more conversant with the new technologymust help the Church on issues of
\nnew media at their respective places,\u201d he said adding that \u201cLet us use the
\nsocial media applications such as WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook, Skype etc to
\nevangelize,\u201d he said adding \u201cEven social media need to be evangelized and the
\nlaity can be very instrumental in this area.\u201d<\/div>\n
