\n<\/a>On the
\noccasion of this year\u2019s World AIDS Day marked last Monday, the Catholic Bishops
\nof Uganda highlighted \u201cthe contributions that the Catholic Church has made
\nthrough one of its currently running projects to the Elimination of Mother to
\nChild Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAccording to
\na report sent to CANAA on Wednesday by the National Communications Secretary of
\nthe Uganda Episcopal Conference, Father Philip Odii, the Bishops recalled their
\ninvolvement in HIV and AIDS issues \u201cfrom the very outbreak of the epidemic in
\nthe country,\u201d and mentioned their first pastoral letter about the epidemic,
\nwhich was published in 1989.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nTo date, all
\n19 dioceses have established HIV\/AIDS Focal Point offices working alongside the
\nhealth coordination structures to maintain the high quality and standards of
\nhealth services rendered to the people of God. The Bishops\u2019 report states that \u201cMost
\nrecently, through the restructuring of the secretariat, both UCMB and the
\nHIV\/AIDS department were brought under the Health commission.\u201d<\/div>\n

\nUCMB refers
\nto the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau, also known as the Health Department.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe report
\nfurther says, \u201cIn 2010, the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) through Cooperative
\nFederal Agreement received funding from the US Government channeled through the
\nCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide HIV\/AIDS services.\u201d
\nIn addition, the AIDS Care and Treatment (ACT) project had provided care to
\n54,711 clients as of September 2014 and that 7% of these clients were children
\nunder the age of 15.<\/div>\n

\n\u201cOn the
\noverall, the Catholic Health facilities currently reporting through the DHIS2
\nsystem recorded 90,646 clients,\u201d the Bishops\u2019 report reveals. It adds that, \u201cthe
\nactual cumulative figures however should be higher as some of the facilities
\nhave not started reporting through the DHIS2 system.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Bishops
\ncalled for collective responsibility in dealing with the HIV and AIDS reality.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cAs we
\ncelebrate this year\u2019s world AIDS day, it is imperative upon all of us, men and
\nwomen of reproductive age, to ensure that we are part of the goal of moving to
\nzero new HIV infections. Each one of us has a role to play,\u201d the Catholic
\nBishops of Uganda insisted.<\/div>\n
