\nAN APPEAL FOR SUPPORT TOWARDS
\nPEOPLE AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN MALAWI<\/b><\/div>\n
\n<\/b> <\/div>\n
\n<\/b>The
\nEpiscopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), saddened by the tragic consequences of
\nthe heavy rains, which have affected over 15 districts since the onset of the
\nfirst rains, send their message of solidarity to the affected families. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nAn estimated
\ntotal of 361,181people (66,945 households) have been affected with 121,000
\n(22,000 households) displaced. It is reported that 162 people have died and 153
\nare still missing. The magnitude of the damage to human life and property is
\nyet to be established as assessments are still underway. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nOur brothers
\nand sisters, who have been affected by this national disaster, require immediate
\nassistance for them to continue living a dignified life.  In the spirit of solidarity, we, Catholic Bishops
\nin Malawi, call upon the Catholic faithful and all people of good will to join
\nhands and contribute generously. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nInspired by
\nthe gospel values of our Lord; “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I
\nwas thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and
\nyou clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me”
\n(Mt 25:35-36), we, Catholic Bishops in Malawi are inviting the priests, religious
\nand the faithful to set aside Sunday 8th
\nFebruary 2015, as a special day for collections towards this noble cause.
\nFurther to this, we will dedicate all collections for the AMECEA Thanks giving
\nMass on 31st January, 2015 towards the support of the flood victims. <\/b><\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nBrothers and
\nsisters in Christ, you are invited to give in cash or in kind the basic needs
\nsuch as food (nonperishable), shelter, water, clothes, kitchen utensils, blankets
\nand other items. All items collected at the parish should be brought to the
\nBishop’s House by Saturday 14th February, 2015 for records and forwarding to
\nthe affected people. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nIn addition
\nto the contributions above, all the faithful with mobile phones either on
\nAirtel or TNM can make contributions by sending an SMS ‘Floods’ or ‘Pepani’ to 50121<\/b>. By doing so you will contribute
\nMK IOO for every SMS towards the Flood Victims. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nLet us keep
\nin mind that “it is more blessed to give than to receive”(Acts
\n20:35). <\/div>\n
