\nThe Bishop
\nChairman of AMECEA Justice and Peace, Rt. Rev. Joseph Anthony Zziwa has called
\nupon National Coordinators of Justice and Peace within AMECEA Region together
\nwith others stakeholder to redouble their efforts in promoting Justice, Peace
\nand Reconciliation in the society as a contribution to addressing the
\nchallenges facing the people.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nAddressing the
\nparticipants of AMECEA Justice and Peace Regional Conference held in Nairobi on
\n27th January, 2015, Bishop Zziwa said that AMECEA Region is facing many
\nchallenges which include bad governance, corruption, inequitable distribution
\nof resources, armed conflicts, influx of refugees, reality of migration outside
\nsome of our countries, terrorism, drought, poverty and bad policies that
\nmarginalize the poor.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\n\u201cThese
\nchallenges call for the concerted efforts of each one of us to ensure our
\npeople are supported to live dignified lives and that justice is served to all,\u201d
\nthe Bishop said. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nBishop Zziwa
\nwho is the ordinary of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese in Uganda said that the Justice
\nand Peace Commission serves as an important department in the Bishops’
\nConferences because there is need for the Church, through the Justice and Peace
\nCommission, to keep the government in check at all times and ensure that there
\nis respect for the rule of law, good governance, democracy and respect for
\nhuman rights as fundamental ingredients of a democratic society.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\n\u201cIt is only
\nby upholding these principles that governments can ensure reduction in
\nconflicts and guarantee a peaceful environment for the growth and prosperity of
\nthe society,\u201d he said adding that \u201cLeft to their own devices, governments can
\nbe the greatest impediments to individual and national prosperity.\u201d <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nThe Bishop
\nsaid that it is important to have the voice of the Church heard and also give
\ninput<\/p>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

during policy making processes at all levels of governance. \u201cThe Church
\nand government must embrace each other as important allies all working for the
\nwelfare of God’s people. It is therefore necessary to cultivate close
\ncollaboration between the Church and government,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n <\/div>\n
\nBishop Zziwa
\nhowever, cautioned that collaboration with government does not mean closing
\neyes when there are injustices against the people by the ruling class or bad
\ngovernance, corruption and disregard for the rule of law. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\n\u201cAs has been
\nsaid many times before, the Church is the conscience of the society and must
\nnot shy away from fulfilling its prophetic role. Justice and peace cannot be
\nlimited to one group, in this case the government,\u201d he said adding that \u201cThe
\nwork for justice and peace should and must be the agenda for all of us in the
\nsociety.\u201d <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nHe
\nchallenged the participants to speak out with courage against all forms of
\ninjustice. You must point out wrongs in the society without fear or favour and
\nbring the leaders to account. \u201cAlso be ready to offer solutions,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nAt the same
\ntime the Bishop expressed his faith in the work of various Justice and Peace
\nCommissions from AMECEA Countries, saying that the challenges the region is
\nfacing are not insurmountable and he believes that by working together, they can
\ncontribute in lessening the burden and giving hope to the less fortunate
\nmembers in the society.<\/div>\n
