\nThe Caritas
\nDepartment of the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) has organized the Sixth
\nAnnual Caritas Week to bring together the Caritas Governing Body in Uganda to
\nshare experiences and harmonize strategies for future engagement.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe annual
\nevent, which is underway in the Diocese of Fort Portal, began on Tuesday, March
\n15 and will conclude on Sunday, March 20, 2016. It is being conducted under the
\ntheme \u201cBe Merciful as Your Father in Heaven is Merciful<\/i><\/b>,\u201d extracted
\nfrom Luke 6:36.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Ordinary
\nof Fort Portal Diocese, Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa is presiding over the
\nproceedings together with Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli, Bishop of Lira Diocese.
\nCaritas Directors, equal opportunity focal persons and selected stakeholders
\nfrom different dioceses are some of the participants present at the event.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAccording to
\nthe Program Coordinator of the UEC Caritas Department, Hellen Chanikare,
\nCaritas week helps to develop more comprehensive strategies, wider public
\nsupport and increase the influence that individuals and communities cannot do
\nalone.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\n\u201cThe week
\nstrengthens a sense of belonging to the fraternity, since members are able to
\nexpress concerns about the operative of the organization country-wide which
\nenables planning for improvement,\u201d she said adding that \u201cIt also provides an
\navenue to share diocesan Caritas performance and strategy used, which fosters
\nlearning and knowledge generation for the organization as well as the broader
\ndevelopment of the community, and provision of information to promote
\ntransparency and accountability.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nShe also
\nnoted that organizing a successful Caritas Week is an evidence of coordination
\nof the Catholic Church development programs throughout the country. \u201cThe
\noutcome for this coordination is creation of harmony and adherence to Caritas
\nPrinciples of partnership, stewardship, solidarity and subsidiary,\u201d she
\nexplained.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nMeanwhile,<\/b> the annual event has built the
\nimage of Caritas in two ways. First, when the participants engage the local
\ncommunities especially during field visits, the strength of Caritas is
\nexhibited. Secondly, the government is engaged through the invited
\nrepresentatives who usually attend the national Caritas celebrations on Palm
\nSunday.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThis is the
\nfirst Caritas Week to be held in Fort Portal Diocese, last year\u2019s event was
\nheld in the Dioceses of Lira. <\/div>\n
